Anna Anachoutlou (r. 1341–1342)
Anna Anachoutlou (r. 1341–1342)
Queen of Trebizond. Reigned as queen of Trebizond (in present-day Turkey) from 1341 to 1342; daughter of King Alexius II (r. 1297–1330).
The empire of Trebizond arose on the southeast coast of the Black Sea under Byzantium's Alexius I, Grand Comnenus, and David Comnenus, grandsons of Andronicus I. With support from queen Tamara the Great , the Comneni captured Trebizond in April 1204. Alexius became emperor, founding a dynasty that lasted 250 years.
Following the removal of Irene Palaeologina from the throne, Anna Anachoutlou was crowned in 1341. That same year, she was deposed in favor of Michael, son of former King John II (r. 1280–1284). She was then, however, restored to the throne and ruled for one more year.
