Anna Amalia

Anna Amalia, Duchess of Saxe-Weimar, German music patroness and composer; b. Wolfenbüttel, Oct. 24, 1739; d. Weimar, April 10, 1807. She studied with F. G. Fleischer and E. W. Wolf, and was a prominent figure at the Weimar court of her son, the Grand Duke Karl August. She wrote the Singspiel, Erwin una Elmire, after Goethe (Weimar, May 24, 1736; ed. by M. Friedlaender, Leipzig, 1921), a Sym., and a Divertimento for Piano, Clarinet, Viola, and Cello.
