Afua Koba (fl. 1834–1884)

Asantehemaa of the Ashanti Empire. Name variations: Afua Kobi; Efua Kobiri. Married Kwasi Gyambibi (tribal chief); children: Kofi Kakari (or Kofi Karikari, asantehene, 1867– 1874) and Mensa Bonsu (asantehene, 1874–1883).

Enstooled as queenmother, or asantehemaa (1834), and held the position, naming several sons as asantehene, until the family was deposed (1884) for cooperating with British colonialists (including an 1881 intervention in hopes of preventing a bloody, deadly battle).
