Ruth Aaronson Bari

1917-

Polish-American mathematician considered the world expert on chromatic polynomials. She attended an all-girl's high school where it was thought that mathematics was not important. Tutoring herself, she went on to receive her undergraduate degree in 1939 from Brooklyn College and her master's from John Hopkins University in 1943. She worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories and in 1966 received her Ph.D. from George Washington University. She later taught at George Washington University.
