Edward Forbes
Edward Forbes
1815-1854
English naturalist who co-founded the science of oceanography and who was a pioneer in biogeology. Forbes was one of the first to divide and study ocean zones in scientific terms. He also detailed how most of the plants and animals of England migrated there from the European continent during distinct episodes of the glacial epoch. His scientific contributions fostered several areas within natural history and made the study of them systematic.
