Xiphodontidae
Xiphodontidae Primitive Eocene and Oligocene artiodactyls, restricted to Europe, that represent a European parallel to the camels which were evolving in the New World at the same time. Probably both groups were descended from early anoplothere stock (see TYLOPODA). In some respects the anoplotheres represent the most primitive ruminants known.
