SLOSS principle
SLOSS principle An acronym for Single Large Over Several Small, the proposition that rare species (see rarity) are more likely to survive if they are conserved within a single, large reserve rather than several, small ones. Although the fragmentation of habitats is generally considered deleterious, small areas of habitat afford protection against disease or the accidental introduction of predators.
