Nemichthyidae (snipe eel; subclass Actinopterygii, order Anguilliformes) A small family of deep-sea eels that have a very long, ribbon-like body and a thin, beak-like snout. One of the better-known species, Nemichthys scolopaceus, may reach a length of 1.2 m. There are about 10 species, distributed world-wide.
