Leucaena (family Leguminosae, subfamily Mimosoideae) A genus of shrubs or small trees which have finely divided, bipinnate leaves. The flowers are axillary, solitary or paired, with 10 stamens. L. leucocephala is widely planted as shade for coffee and the like, browse (although if eaten in excess it causes hair to fall out), fuel wood, and timber. There are about 40 species, most of which occur in tropical America.
