Lentinus (family Polyporaceae) A genus of fungi in which the fruit bodies are tough and have gills with serrated margins. L. lepideus causes decay of timber; L. edodes is edible and is cultivated in some parts of the world. See also SHIITAKE and STAG'S-HORN FUNGUS.
