homotaxis Literally, ‘the same arrangement’ (from the Greek homos and taxis). The term was proposed by T. H. Huxley (1825–95), in an address to the Geological Society of London, to describe strata from different areas that contain similar lithologic or fossil successions but are not necessarily of the same age.
