hydrogen sulphide Colourless, poisonous gas (H2S) with the smell of bad eggs. It is produced by decaying matter, found in crude oil and prepared by the action of sulphuric acid on metal sulphides. Properties: m.p. −85.5°C (−121.9°F), b.p. −60.7°C (−77.3°F).
