WOLFSOHN, JULIUSZ
WOLFSOHN, JULIUSZ (1880–1944), pianist, critic, and composer. Born in Warsaw, Wolfsohn studied piano at the conservatories in Warsaw, Paris, and in Vienna, where he wrote music and criticism for the Montagblatt. On his return to Poland in 1925, he wrote for Muzykai Rytm and lectured on Jewish music and musicians and on the interpretation of Chopin. Wolfsohn settled in the United States in 1933. He composed a number of works on eastern European Jewish themes, including Jewish Rhapsody, Hebrew Suite, and Twelve Paraphrases on Jewish Melodies.
