SONS OF MARY HEALTH OF THE SICK

(Filii Mariae Salutis Infirmorum, FMSI, Official Catholic Directory #1270); a diocesan congregation founded in 1952 in the Archdiocese of Boston by Edward F. gareschÉ, with the approval of Archbishop (later Cardinal) Richard J. Cushing, for medical, catechetical, and social work in home and foreign missions. Besides the sanctification and mission work of its own members, the society has as its special purpose the training of qualified lay people for catechetical and medical work in order to reach large numbers of persons in need of religious instruction and medical attention. On March 26, 1955, a decree from Rome recognized the diocesan status of the congregation. Its first priest was ordained Jan. 29, 1956. The generalate is in Framingham, Masschusetts.
