SHAPIRO, BENJAMIN (1913– ), Israeli biochemist. Shapiro was born in Germany and immigrated to Ereẓ Israel in 1926. He received his doctorate in science from the Hebrew University in 1940 and was appointed associate professor in 1953 and full professor in 1958. He was awarded the Israel Prize for medicine in 1955.
