MEYER, LUDWIG BEATUS
MEYER, LUDWIG BEATUS (1780–1854), Danish lexicographer. Born in Germany, Meyer was a teacher in Stockholm before he settled in Copenhagen in 1803. He retired from a high civil service post in 1821 and turned to scholarly pursuits, publishing a guide to German poetry (1823). His Lexicon (1837) of foreign words and phrases in Danish became a standard work and, under the title Meyers Fremmedordbog, was often reprinted.
