Pʾu-Hua (Jap., Fuke; d. 860). Chʾan/Zen master, dharma-successor (hassu) of Pʾan-shan Pao-chi. Well-known for his unconventional style, he was important in the founding of the Fuke school which made non-sūtra activities important, e.g. flute-playing: see KAKUSHIN; KOMUSŌ. Pʾu-hua remains a model of the holy fool style of Zen.
