Nāmdev
Nāmdev. A Hindu poet from Mahārāṣṭra, to whom at least 2,000 abhaṅgs in Marāṭhī are attributed; in Hindī a smaller corpus of poems is included in the Sikh Granth Sāhib. This material is closely related to the temple tradition of Paṇḍharpur in Mahārāṣṭra where Viṭhobā (Viṭṭhala) is worshipped. Many of these abhaṅgs deal with legends about the saints associated with this cult.
The poems attributed to Nāmdev proclaim the oneness and omnipresence of God and the need to realize this nirguṇa God by ‘dying’ to the world.
