Kyŏmik

Kyŏmik (fl. 6th cent. CE). Founder of the Vinaya school of Buddhism in the kingdom of Paekche in Korea. Kyŏmik studied the Vinaya in India, returning home in 526 with the texts of the five-division Vinaya. Upon his return, he was commissioned by King Sŏngmyŏng (r. 523–53) to translate the Vinaya texts which, subsequently, became the foundation of Paekche Buddhism.
