Udagamandalam
Udagamandalam (ōō´dəgəmän´dəläm), formerly Ootacamund (ōō´təkəmŭnd´), town (1991 pop. 81,763), Tamil Nadu state, SW India, in the Nilgiri Hills. At an altitude of c.7,000 ft (2,130 m), the town is the most famous hot-weather resort in S India and has a significant tourism industry. It is also a district administrative center and a market for tea, coffee, teak, and sandalwood. There are industries in textile manufacture and tea-processing in Udagamandalam.
