Skagit (skăj´Ĭt), river, c.150 mi (240 km) long, rising in the Cascade Range, British Columbia, and flowing SW through Wash. into Puget Sound. Gorge High Dam, Diablo Dam, and Ross Dam provide electricity for Seattle. The lakes formed behind the dams are in a 40-mi (64-km) stretch of river canyon that makes up Ross Lake National Recreation Area (see National Parks and Monuments, table). Ross Lake, 24 mi (39 km) long, extends to the Canadian border.
