Satyendra Prassano Sinha, 1st Baron Sinha of Raipur (sətĕn´drə prəsän´ô sĬn´hä), 1864–1928, Indian statesman. A successful lawyer, he was the first Indian to hold several important administrative positions under the British: advocate general of Bengal (1907), member of the governor-general's executive council (1909), and provincial governor (1920). In 1919 he became undersecretary for India in the British government and played a key role in framing the Government of India Act (1919). He became governor of Bihar and Orissa in 1920, but poor health forced his resignation the next year. He was knighted in 1914 and raised to the peerage in 1919.
