Sarapul
Sarapul (sərä´pōōl), city (1989 pop. 110,000), E European Russia, in the Udmurt Republic, on the Kama River. It is a rail junction on the Moscow-Yekaterinburg line. Industries include food processing, machine tools, radio equipment, steel, and aircraft parts. Founded in the late 16th cent., Sarapul was devastated in the Pugachev rebellion of 1773. During the early 19th cent. it served as a trade center on the route to Siberia.
