Nordland
Nordland (nôr´län, nŏŏr´–), county (1995 pop. 241,420), 14,798 sq mi (38,327 sq km), N central Norway, bordering on the Norwegian Sea in the west and on Sweden in the east. The chief towns are Bodø (the capital), Mo, and Narvik. The county has many fjords and approximately 600 islands, including the Lofoten and the Vesterålen groups. Fishing, mining (iron, lead, and zinc), livestock raising, and farming are the main occupations. In addition copper is mined and processed at Sulitjelma.
