Neuwied

Neuwied (noi´vēt´), city (1994 pop. 65,047), Rhineland-Palatinate, W Germany, a port at the confluence of the Rhine and Wied rivers. Manufactures of this industrial city include building materials, machinery, electronic equipment, and chemicals. Neuwied developed around a palace begun by Count Frederick III of Wied in 1648. There are Roman ruins nearby.
