Mincio

Mincio (mēn´chō), river, c.47 mi (76 km) long, in Lombardy, N Italy. It flows generally south from the southern end of Lake Garda through Mantua (where it forms three lakes) to the Po River. Above Lake Garda it is called the Sarca. The Sarca-Garda-Mincio line, which is 120 mi (193 km) long, marks the natural border between Lombardy and Venetia and has been of strategic importance, especially in the wars of the Risorgimento (1848–49).
