Ibagué (ēbägā´), city (1993 pop. 340,191), alt. 4,300 ft (1,311 m), capital of Tolima dept., W central Colombia. It is a major commercial center for the Magdalena and Cauca valleys. Coffee, flour, and sugar are produced in the city, and silver and sulfur are shipped. In 1854, Ibagué served briefly as the national capital. It grew rapidly as a result of the coffee boom in the 1890s. It is the site of Tolima Univ.
