Achille Fould (äshēl´ fōōld), 1800–1867, French financier and politician. Fould gave financial backing to Louis Napoleon (later Emperor Napoleon III), whom he served four times as minister of finance and once (1852–60) as minister of state. In his tenure as finance minister the Bank of Algeria was founded and the floating debt was reduced (1863) by a loan.
