Eluru
Eluru (ĕl´ŏŏrōō) or Ellore (ĕlōr´), city (1991 pop. 212,866), Andhra Pradesh state, E central India. It is a district administrative center, lying at the junction of the Krishna and Godavari canal systems. Carpet making, tanning, and textile manufacture are important. Extensive ruins 8 mi (12.9 km) N of Eluru are thought to be the site of the capital of the Buddhist kingdom of Vengi (c.AD 600–c.AD 1000).
