Dalyell, Thomas
Thomas Dalyell (both: dēĕl´, dăl´yəl), 1599?–1685, Scottish soldier; also called Dalziel of the Binns. He fought for Charles II at the battle of Worcester (1651), was captured, escaped, and took service in Russia. Returning to Scotland after the Restoration (1660), he became commander of the forces charged with suppressing the Covenanters.
