Amecameca
Amecameca (ämā´kämā´kä), town (1990 pop. 25,374), Mexico state, S central Mexico, at the foot of the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes. The sanctuary of El Sacro Monte, the most venerated spot in Mexico after the shrine of Guadalupe Hidalgo, stands on a hill above Amecameca. The town's history dates back to 1200.
