Gómez-Cruz, Ernesto (1933–)

Ernesto Gómez-Cruz (b. 7 November 1933), Mexican stage and screen actor. Born in Veracruz, Gómez-Cruz studied theater at his hometown university. In 1967 he debuted in the acclaimed film Los caifanes, and since then has starred or costarred in over eighty features. He has received more best actor or supporting actor awards than any other actor in Mexican cinema. Gómez-Cruz is known for his ability to play a wide range of roles. His noted films include Actas de Marusia (1975), Cadena perpetua; La venida del Rey Olmos; La vispera; Auandar Anapu, El imperio de la fortuna (1986), El norte; Lo que importa es vivir (1988), Barroco (1990), The Mexican (2001), Pachito Rex, me voy pero no del todo (2001), El crimen del Padre Amaro (2002), Un mundo maravilloso (2006), and Luces artificiales (2007). Gómez-Cruz has also had a successful television and stage career.
