Agüeybana II (?–1511)

Agüeybana II (d. 1511), nephew of Agüeybana I and next in line to rule the political confederacy of Boriquén (Puerto Rico) when the Spaniards took over the island in 1508. Agüeybana was of the Taino culture. Given in encomienda to the settler Cristóbal de Sotomayor, Agüeybana II led a revolt against the Spaniards in 1511. He succeeded in destroying their settlement and killing Sotomayor, but also lost his own life in the struggle to defeat the Spaniards.
