Quasimodo name of the hunchback bellringer in Victor Hugo's novel Notre-Dame de Paris (1831), sometimes taken as a type of courage and kindness behind an unattractive exterior.

From the 1960s, Quasimodo has been used in surfing for an act of riding on a wave in a crouched position with one arm forward and one arm back.
