ministering angel
ministering angel a kind-hearted person, especially a woman, who nurses or comforts others. Recorded from the early 17th century, particularly with allusion to Shakespeare's Hamlet (1603), the image of a tender and nurturing woman in this guise was reinforced by Scott in Marmion (1808).
