cyclone System of winds, or a storm, that rotates inwards around a centre of low atmospheric pressure (depression). The winds flow anti-clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. Cyclones in middle latitudes are associated with cloudiness and high humidity, and the development of a front. Strong tropical cyclones can give rise to hurricanes.
