Worcester, pact of

Worcester, pact of, 1264. After Simon de Montfort's victory at Lewes in May 1264, he attempted to subdue Roger Mortimer and the marcher lords. On 12 December at Worcester, a compromise was reached whereby the lords were to go to Ireland for a year and a day, Prince Edward's possessions were to pass to de Montfort, but the prince was to be released. Everything was overturned by de Montfort's defeat and death at Evesham in August 1265, when his head was sent as a trophy to Mortimer's wife at Wigmore.
