Sevenoaks, battle of
Sevenoaks, battle of, 1450. In June 1450 Henry VI advanced with a sizeable force into Kent to confront Jack Cade's rebels. But on the 18th a detachment under Sir Humphry Stafford was routed and the commander killed. Though little more than an ambush, it was enough to undermine morale in the royal army. Henry left for safer parts and Cade went on to occupy London.
