Reculver

Reculver was a fort of the Saxon Shore on the north coast of Kent. In the Roman period the Wantsum channel separating the Isle of Thanet from Kent was open water. Reculver was built to a traditional fort design at the north-east of the channel in the early 3rd cent. Regulbium is listed in the Notitia dignitatum as garrisoned by cohors I Baetasiorum. Marine erosion since the Roman period has removed about two-fifths of the northern part of the site.
