London Gazette
London Gazette. Published as the Oxford Gazette prior to 5 February 1666, this bi-weekly was an immediate success, despite its dullness, since it carried all the official news. Competition from new, livelier publications after 1695 and the Stamp Act (1712) led to a decline in importance and sales, though not demise.
