KINGS FERRY, NEW YORK. About twenty-five miles north of New York City and half that distance south of West Point, this Hudson River crossing was between Stony Point (on the west bank) and Verplancks Point. It was strategically important as the southernmost crossing site that the Americans could safely use while the British held New York City.
