sauna Wood-lined room in which a wood-fired stove (or an electric heater) raises the temperature to between 60 and 95°C (140–203°F). It also refers to the activity of sitting in the heated room and sweating profusely, often leaving and returning to the heat several times. The sauna was originally a semi-religious exercise pioneered by the Finns.
