Paris, Treaties of Name given to several international agreements made in Paris. The most notable include: the Treaty of 1763, which ended the Seven Years' War; the Treaty of 1783, which ended the American Revolution; the Treaty of 1814, which settled the affairs of France after the first abdication of Napoleon I; the Treaty of 1815, after Napoleon's final defeat; the Treaty of 1856, ending the Crimean War; the Treaty of 1898, ending the Spanish-American War and giving the Philippines to the USA; and the main international settlement (1919) after World War I, more often called the Treaty of Versailles. Also signed in Paris was the truce in the Vietnam War (1973), in which the USA agreed to withdraw its forces.
