Doge's Palace Residence of the doge (chief magistrate of Venice, 697–1797), in St Mark's Square, Venice, Italy. Begun in the 9th century and rebuilt several times. The present version (by Giovanni and Bartolomeo Buon) is a unique example of Venetian Gothic architecture. Its facades (1309–1424) are faced with white and rose-pink marble. It has delicately carved capitals and long lines of open tracery.
