It developed under the influence of Antonin Artaud, who advocated a physical theatre expressing stark emotions rather than complex dialogue. Violence was used as a theatrical device to disturb audience perception. Artaud's theories emphasized the ritual and the surreal, and performance was considered more important than a specific text.
