anodizing
anodizing Electrolytic process to coat aluminium or magnesium with a thin layer of oxide to help prevent corrosion. The process makes the metal the anode (positive electrode) in an acid solution. The protective coating is insoluble and a good insulator. It can be dyed bright colours, many of which are resistant to sunlight.
