The University of Maine at Augusta was founded in 1965. It is accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges. It first offered distance learning courses in 1986. In fall 2003, there were 2,300 students enrolled in distance learning courses. Institutionally administered financial aid is available to distance learners.
