Description:

County-supported, 2-year, coed. Awards certificates, transfer associate, and terminal associate degrees. Founded 1958. Setting: 150-acre suburban campus with easy access to Washington, DC. Educational spending 2003-04: $5638 per student. Total enrollment: 12,564. 4,570 applied, 100% were admitted. Full-time: 3,352 students, 58% women, 42% men. Part-time: 9,212 students, 69% women, 31% men. Students come from 20 states and territories, 98 other countries, 4% from out-of-state, 1% Native American, 3% Hispanic, 76% black, 4% Asian American or Pacific Islander, 3% international, 51% 25 or older, 13% transferred in. Retention: 58% of full-time freshmen returned the following year. Core. Calendar: semesters plus 2 summer sessions.
