Description: Independent Roman Catholic, comprehensive, coed. Awards bachelor's, master's, and first professional degrees. Founded 1808. Setting: 1,400-acre rural campus with easy access to Baltimore and Washington, DC. Endowment: $27.2 million. Educational spending 2002-03: $6565 per student. Total enrollment: 2,088.
