Beginning Freshmen Awards (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support students who have demonstrated potential and interest in pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering. Focus: Engineering. Qualif.: Applicants must be African American, Latino, and American Indian students who have been approved for admission as engineering majors. Applicants must also have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.70-4.00 and minimum cumulative scores on either the ACT/SAT college entrance examination of 25-1000. Students must attend a NAMEPA member institution. Criteria: Applicants will be selected based on the coursework in high school and interest in participating in-campus Multi-Cultural Engineering Programs (MEP) initiatives.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit the following: an official copy of high school transcript and test scores; a one-page essay expressing their reasons for choosing engineering, why they think they should be selected, and an overview of their future aspirations as an engineer; resume; and a completed recommendation form. The application and recommendation forms are available from the website. Deadline: May 15.

Carl H. Pforzheimer, Jr., Research Grants (Graduate/Grant)

Purpose: To support research in the field of British Romanticism. To provide funding for expenses related to research in the field of British Romanticism and literary culture between 1789 and 1832. Focus: British studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be advanced graduate students, independent scholars, and untenured faculties. Criteria: Awards are given based on their research proposal and application.

Funds Avail.: $2,500. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Application form is available at the website. Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae; description of the project, not exceed three pages; must have one page bibliography of publications that treat the topic; must have two letters of reference from people who know the applicants work well and can judge its value. Application form must be print out and must be send together with the other application materials to: Chair, Grant Committee, Keats_Shelley Association of America, Inc., Rm. 226, The New York Public Library, 476 5th Ave., New York, NY 10018-2788. Deadline: November 1.

Remarks: The awards honor the late Carl H. Pforzheimer, Jr., a past President of the Association and among its most vigorous advocates. He also headed The Carl and Lily Pforzheimer Foundation, Inc., long distinguished for funding scholarship centered on early nineteenth-century English literature.

Transfer Engineering Student Awards (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: For students who have demonstrated potential and interest in pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering. Focus: Engineering. Qualif.: Applicants must be African American, Latino, and American Indian students admitted as transfer students from either a junior college, community college or three/two dual-degree program; must have a minimum grade point average of 2.70-4.00. Criteria: High consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate genuine interest in participating in-campus Multi-Cultural Engineering Programs (MEP) initiatives.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a

complete application package including a completed application and recommendation form available from the website; an official copy of college transcripts; a one-page essay expressing their reasons for choosing engineering, why they think they should be selected, and an overview of their future aspirations as an engineer; and a resume. Deadline: May 15.
